Pre-colonial Southern African Settlements

Approaches to the study of early urban cities have often used methods that are exclusionary to early African settlements due to cross-cultural comparisons like comparing African cities to European cities. Previously, Africa was seen to have no early urban settlements that were not a result of foreign influence.

That is why studying about Seoke is so important.

Seoke is one of several pre-colonial settlements that are the subject of archaeological research in Southern Africa. Some of the better known settlements studied in the region include Great Zimbabwe and Mapungubwe.
