Inhabitants of Seoke
The Bangwaketse (alternatively known as the BaNgwaketse or Ngwaketse) are a group of Tswana-speaking people that originate in the South Eastern regions of Botswana.
Under Moleta (ruled 1770-1790), the Bangwaketse expanded rapidly, raided for cattle in the region, and conquered and absorbed many groups. Most of present southern Botswana came under Moleta’s power. The Bangwaketse controlled a wide area and used Seoke as a base to raid neighbouring chiefdoms as far away as 200 km. They were feared as far as present Northern Cape and Northwest provinces of South Africa.
