Physical Environment
The location of Seoke provided the Bangwaketse with access to resources such as water, farmland, game for hunting and defensive terrain. The terrain also served to provide shading to moderate the summer heat and to provide shelter from severe weather such as storms and winter winds.
The chief’s dwelling was located at a higher elevation for visibility and exclusivity. Livestock kraals, especially cattle kraals were located in defensively advantageous locations along the hills of Seoke, as cattle were assets that represented material wealth for the Bangwaketse.
