Cattle were highly valued by the Bangwaketse and other Tswana communities. Apart from special feasts (marriages, funerals, etc), they were seldom slaughtered. Their value came from the nourishment of their milk and as exchange between families to secure marriages. Wealthy families loaned them to the poor to look after, and the poor provided service in return.
